Basic lawn care tips can save you money.
Aside from the money homeowners get to save, they will also learn a thing or two about proper lawn care and improve their knowledge as they continue to do all the tasks themselves. Check out the following effective care and maintenance tips that are shared by the experts.
- Spreading fertilizers. This can actually be done by anyone without an expert’s help. Just know the right fertilizer to use and make a schedule to do it. It is also preferable to use natural fertilizers as much as possible. When using natural fertilizers, just combine any leftovers from the kitchen such as fruit and vegetable peelings, over-ripe fruits and even most other cooking ingredients that you no longer use. This is called COMPOST. Alternately, you can also make use of grass clippings as fertilizers. Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow. Food scraps and yard waste currently make up 20 to 30 percent of what we throw away, and should be composted instead. Making compost keeps these materials out of landfills where they take up space and release methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
- Mowing. This is one of the easiest things to do when maintaining your lawn. Just remember not to cut the grass too short. There is an ideal grass length that lawn care experts suggest to make sure that your lawn still looks good and healthy after mowing. Mowing should also be scheduled to make sure that you cut the grass according to its normal length. Invest in a quality lawn mower or rent a high-powered to make your mowing a little easier and faster.
- Watering. As what many experts advise, water deeply rather than frequently. This encourages the roots to dig deeper allowing them to sip more water during summer. This is actually what most homeowners miss when it comes to watering the grass. Most homeowners tend to water the lawn too frequently which can bring more damage than good. Experts will always suggest to water at least once a week but make sure that you water the grass deeply.
The information above are just some of the useful and very effective lawn care tips for homeowners who want to do all these by themselves.
